Pictures from Edmonton Expo 2014; mask progress updates

Last weekend I went to the Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo. I was the only kig there (Kari was there but wasn't kigging). I wore Erika on Friday and Sunday and Homura on Saturday. This was the first con where I handed out coscards. I did have a few people say that they might get back to me, but I haven't gotten any replies yet.

I adjusted Sayaka's hair so that it curves forwards.

I started on more parts of Hibiki's headset and adjusted the parts I'd added before.

140916 Mask progress updates

A little over a week ago I was in Calgary for the Maker Faire. While I didn't kig at the Maker Faire, I did meet up with Ryuga_knight the day before and we went on cam in the KigOnline Tinychat room for a bit (although not quite as long as we wanted because I was having issues with tethering my phone).

I started adjusting Sayaka's hair at the back and sides (the spikes are grouped more randomly now).

I softened Hibiki's sides and adjusted her mouth a little. I also started working on her headset.

Pictures from Animethon 21; mask progress updates

A little over a week ago I went to Animethon. I wore Erika on Friday and Homura the other two days (I was still finishing Homura on Saturday). Leoji and Ryuga_knight were also there, although we didn't get to kig together as a group. We didn't really get to kig all that much this time around.

Here are some pictures of Homura when I was assembling her (before I printed her I moved the sides of her cheeks up a bit and made them more rounded). The segment alignment didn't work very well. I had moved the alignment slots so that they opened into the inside. I solvent welded them in beforehand, although I was in a rush so the acetone slurry holding the blocks in was still a bit soft when I put the segments together. I think maybe I should try switching to fixed tabs printed as part of the segments instead of blocks. Coating the outside of the mask in resin rather than using acetone slurry worked reasonably well though (it fills the cracks better than acetone slurry does).

I've started refurbishing Plutia and Maiko. Maiko had some bad cracks on the center line (there was a large void on the center line in her nose bridge and a crack in her chin) and a few spots where only the paint had cracked but was otherwise OK; Plutia will need more extensive refurbishment (she needs to be resmoothed, repainted, extra padding needs to be added at the top, her old paper eyes/brows/lashes need to be replaced with vinyl ones, and she needs new wigs).
I am going to sell Maiko to Leoji.

I've also been working on Sayaka and Hibiki.

I made similar adjustments to Sayaka's cheeks as I did for Homura. I also adjusted her eyes and started adjusting her hair again.

I adjusted Hibiki's cheeks, temples, jawline, and nose. I also changed the angle of the eye sockets to point straight out relative to the shell.

140801 Homura update

I adjusted Homura's eyes and mouth some more, and made her ears more rounded.
